The Robert F. Gilley Recording Studio
The Robert F. Gilley Recording Studio is a state-of-the-art recording studio under the direction of Mr. Scott Wynne. The studio operates as both a learning facility for Music Industry Studies students and professional recording facility for faculty and students, as well as local musicians.
The studio's primary control room (Studio A) features a Yamaha DM2000 digital console, Pro Tools HD 9, and Dynaudio M3 loudspeaker with alternate Yamaha NS-10 monitors and Genelec 8040 monitors. Control Room A features a large array of outboard equipment utilized in many commercial recording studios by manufactures such as API, Apogee, Chandler, DBX, Drawmer, Focusrite, Universal Audio, Empirical Labs, and Great River.
The main draw of our studio's secondary control room (Studio B) is our 5.1 Genelec monitoring system which is used to work on music and video productions in surround sound. Studio B contains a Sony DMX R100 digital console, as well as Pro Tools HD 9. This studio is also housed with several recording systems including MOTU's PCI-428 system with a 2408 MKII and 24 I/O; Alesis ADAT XT, Tascam DTRS, and Radar 24. The studio is capable of recording, importing and exporting all major digital file formats (WAV, BWAV, SDII and AIFF) as well as teaching the skills necessary to move a project between platforms and DAW systems to maximize production capabilities on any platform.
Both studios clock off of our Apogee Big Ben clocking system allowing seamless digital audio transfers between both studios and utilization of equipment between the studios such as our Apogee AD-16x and TC Electronics System 6000 multi effects processor. The live room and iso booth are connected to both studios as well, allowing one group to work on editing and mixing while another group works on overdubs and/or initial tracking sessions. As a secondary feature, Studio B can also be used as a recording space with 16 microphone lines, which can be routed to the Studio A recording system.
The intentionally designed flexibility of the RFG Recording Studio allows our students, engineers, producers, and artists to meet the demands of the changing industry by teaching the skill sets which are necessary for the next generation of music industry professionals, providing a facility which parallels commercial studios in operation, and having the ability to conform to the needs of every project we work on.
