Why Study Voice
A place where you'll never get lost in the crowd. Within a leading university, we're a school of 475 students! Individual attention and guidance is our specialty, not just in the classroom but outside of it, too.- A community of artists. We're a school of diverse people who have one very important thing in common...music. We thrive on individuality and provide a haven for students to explore. And we expect nothing short of curiosity and innovation from our students.
- A great school in a cool city. For the last 20 years, Appalachian State University has been ranked consistently among the top universities by US News & World Report. We're located in the heart of Boone, North Carolina, recognized as one of North America's ultimate outdoor adventure destinations as well as one of the country's premier small towns. Appalachian State's Football Mountaineers - NCAA National Football Champions three consecutive years - have a rich tradition of playing some of the most exciting football games and producing some of the best players in the country. The area and all it has to offer is at our doorstep. And as a school composed of citizen musicians, we pride ourselves on being active members of the surrounding community.
- A world-class faculty and alumni. Our faculty are active performers nationally and internationally. Through classes, master classes, ensembles and numerous performance opportunities, you'll learn from them what life as a performer is really like. Complementing on-campus recitals and concerts by students and faculty are programs by guest artists, composers, conductors and lecturers from virtually every corner of the world. A particular highlight is the Appalachian Summer Festival, an exciting month-long festival that typically features performances by an impressive array of faculty and guest artists, composers and conductors, including premiere performances of new compositions. And our alumni go off and do great things...they're in symphony orchestras, with opera companies, teaching in the best schools, and most importantly, they're influencing people through their music. As a Hayes School of Music graduate, you'll be in proud company.
Nothing will tell you more about the Hayes School of Music than spending some time here. We encourage you to come visit. Talk to students, faculty, staff...you'll know if this is the right place for you.
