Celebrations of the new academic year continue this week with ASU Convocation, including an address by Ishmael Beah, author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier.  Saturday brings opening day of the football season and the debut of the 2015 Marching Mountaineers on Faculty-Staff Appreciation Day at the stadium.  Then we'll relax a bit with a holiday on Monday to celebrate Labor Day.    EVENTS   For complete listings of Spring 2015...

The 2015-16 academic year has begun at ASU.  Auditions for the Hayes School of Music's ensembles conclude today (mostly), and classes are up and running. Summer is flying by.  Cannon Music Camp has concluded its 47th season.  An Appalachian Summer Festival ends next week.  Summer Session II has two more weeks.  Starting August 10, the campus begins to fill with faculty and students returning for leadership and organization activities, followed by the beginning of classes on Monday, August 17.      LOOKING AHEAD Fall classes begin on Monday, August 17. Today, we're back in normal operations after the excitement of Friday's ceremonies and celebrations to install Dr. Sheri Everts as Appalachian's seventh Chancellor.  (See kudos for details about the HSoM's involvement.)  In these last two weeks of classes, there are performances by individual students and ensembles every night of the week and many on the weekend, as well.  Additionally, students are working on final projects, including master's thesis defenses, presentations, and...
This mid-April week brings a special event to the Appalachian campus, the installation of our new Chancellor, Dr. Sheri Everts.  The ceremony will take place at 10 am on Friday, April 17, in the Holmes Convocation Center, and the HSoM's ensembles—Choirs, Symphony Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble—will be featured during the event.  A reception for the community will be held at 3 pm that day in the Roess Dining Hall, providing a chance for everyone to meet and congratulate Chancellor Everts...
