This mid-April week brings a special event to the Appalachian campus, the installation of our new Chancellor, Dr. Sheri Everts.  The ceremony will take place at 10 am on Friday, April 17, in the Holmes Convocation Center, and the HSoM's ensembles—Choirs, Symphony Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble—will be featured during the event.  A reception for the community will be held at 3 pm that day in the Roess Dining Hall, providing a chance for everyone to meet and congratulate Chancellor Everts...

We're back from Spring Break, and we begin the remainder of the semester knowing the names of three new colleagues who will join the Hayes School of Music in Fall 2015.  Our Music Theory, Music Therapy, and Tuba/Euphonium searches have concluded successfully:  Ms. Katurah Christenbury, who has served as Lecturer in Music Therapy this year on an interim basis, will continue in that role.  Dr. Greg McCandless, currently Chair of Music Composition at Full Sail University) will join...
We'll have both "lion" and "lamb" versions of March this week—60 degrees on Wednesday, high 20s with snow on Thursday—as we look forward to ASU's spring break.  The HSoM concluded its audition season on Saturday, and we'll see in these coming weeks just who will be part of the fall class of 2015.  EVENTS   For complete listings of Spring 2015 performances, including student degree recitals and details about live audio/video stream availability, please see the HSoM Calendar:...
Today is another "snow day" at Appalachian, with classes canceled till 2 pm.  For those of you off the mountain, picture a steady fall of powder, not a puff of wind, all sound muffled slightly by the insulating accumulation.  And now the clouds have lifted, with bits of blue sky visible intermittently.  The forecast calls for improving conditions this afternoon and evening, so performances by guest artists Lynn Mackey and David Gee (Recital Hall, 6 pm) and the Appalachian...

Due to unforeseen circumstances, tomorrow's performance (Wednesday, February 18) of the Axiom Brass Quintet has been canceled.
As forecast last week, we had a bit of a winter storm blow through yesterday and today.  Only mandatory University operations are running, with the rest of campus scheduled to open at 11 am today.  Classes, which were canceled as of 3 pm yesterday, will resume at 2 pm today.  Such is mountain weather. Now we'll brace for the coldest days of the year, but our concerts will go on, including APPropos! tonight and the Axiom Brass Quintet tomorrow.  EVENTS   For...
T.S. Eliot said that "April is the cruelest month," but plenty in the High Country would beg to differ as February swings from springlike to harsh winter in a matter of days.  That's what happens this week, with temperatures hovering around 60 degrees yesterday and plummeting to a daytime high of 10 degrees next Sunday.  It's a great week to be a Mountaineer (as long as you've got good cold-weather gear)!  EVENTS   For complete listings of Spring 2015 performances,...

As our friends in the northeast brace for an "epic, historic" winter storm, we're seeing just a "dusting to an inch" of snow.  And we're in full swing for the semester, with concerts scheduled, an audition day on Saturday, and many other events in the planning stages.   EVENTS   For complete listings of Spring 2015 performances, including student degree recitals and details about live audio/video stream availability, please see the HSoM Calendar:  http://music....
