It's midsummer in the High Country, and we are enjoying a beautiful season.  I've heard many reflect back to last summer's record rainfall, and it's clear that this one is nearing perfection—sunny days, cool nights, with just enough rainfall to keep the trees happy and forest fire danger low.  There are several performances coming up in the next weeks that feature our students and faculty.  Each will be worth a trip up the mountain if you're away from Boone!First, on this...

Spring began here on campus with an announcement that Dr. Sheri Everts, currently provost at Illinois State University, will be Appalachian's new chancellor, beginning July 1.  Dr. Everts visited campus last Thursday through the weekend, and she had opportunities to hear HSoM students perform.  First, the Marching Mountaineers and our graduate string trio were featured at her introductory party Thursday morning in Central Dining Hall (soon to be named Alice Roess Dining Hall). ...

Our NASM evaluators, Dr. Adrian Daly (dean of the Cleveland Institute of Music) and Dr. Edward Kocher (dean of Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music), are on campus today and tomorrow.   They are observing lessons, classes, and ensembles, meeting with various individuals and groups, and reviewing additional materials beyond our written self study, in order to verify our documentation and compliance with NASM standards.  We're enjoying this opportunity to share the...
