Welcome to the Hayes School of Music's Performances page! On this page you can plan a visit for an upcoming concert or watch most concerts live on video. Concert videos are only available to watch live as they are happening, so mark your calendar for the following events! The live-streamed video will appear a few minutes before the recital begins. While you are waiting for your scheduled program to begin, you may see some highlights from previous performances or interviews with Hayes School of Music professors.

Directed by Dr. Alicia Chapman, the early music ensemble Collegium Musicum presents music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras, employing instruments and historical performance practices to share way the music could have been heard in centuries past. This concert features sacred and secular music by composers from Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788).

Czech pianist and composer Jiří Pazour visits Schaffel Recital Hall on April 1 to present a captivating and fully improvised performance, elaborating on famous themes and all-new material!

Pazour is joined by the musicians of Sonorous Threshold (faculty and friends of the Hayes School of Music): Rob Falvo, percussion; Karen Robertson, horn; Carlyn Waller, clarinet; Harold McKinney, trombone. 

Jiří Pazour is a well-known Czech composer and pianist. He is a graduate of the Prague Conservatory where he has been teaching piano improvisation in the Department of Piano since 1995. He has created orchestral, chamber, and solo compositions for the concert hall and the theater, including children’s songs based on the lyrics of Czech poets. He is a popular performer focused on his piano improvisations at home and internationally, and his compositions are regularly played on Czech Radio.

Music Humanities Community Conversations Series

New this Spring, the Music Humanities Community Conversation Series provides a forum for students, faculty, and staff at Appalachian State University and community members to engage current topics in music humanities through invited talks and workshops given by scholars, artists, and cultural leaders from Appalachian State and the surrounding region.
