BOONE — The inaugural 2018 Hayes School of Music Piano Competition at Appalachian State University proudly presented awards to winners on Oct. 6. First place was awarded to Christopher Tavernier of Hendersonville. A tie for Second Place went to Trung Nguyen of Leesburg, Va., and Kevin Xu of Cary. Third place was awarded to Tan Nguyen, also of Leesburg, Va. Two pianists received Honorable Mentions: Carson Garcia of Charlotte and Dominic Rajagopal of Old Fort.
At the conclusion of the day’s event was a Winners’ Showcase Concert where all six pianists performed a selection of their award-winning pieces.
