Florence Jowers, Guest Organ Recital

Associate Professor of Music and University Organist of Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC Ms. Florence Jowers will be coming to Appalachian State University to perform an Organ Recital. Her recital opens with "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 538" by Johann Sebastian Bach. Jowers also will perform "Variations and Fugue on the English National Anthem" by Max Reger, "Organ Sonata No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 27" by Josef Rheinberger and works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Lionel Rogg. Come and enjoy the music.

bio:

Ms. Jowers received music degrees in organ performance and church music from the Yale University School of Music, New Haven, CT, and Stetson University, DeLand, FL. She was the recipient of a Rotary International Fellowship for post-graduate study abroad, at which time she studied with the late Anton Heiller at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria, and with Peter Planyavsky at St. Stephen's Cathedral. Ms. Jowers has recently served as president of Region 2 of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and as Dean of the Hickory Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
