The Hayes School of Music considers the ensemble experience to be an integral part of every musician's training. Ensembles are considered classes, so students receive academic credit for their participation.
As a music major, you must register for and successfully complete at least 1 appropriate ensemble – but not more than 3 – each semester as a full-time student. Ensemble auditions are scheduled each semester during the registration period prior to the first day of classes. Full requirements are detailed in the Student Handbook.
Larger ensembles meet twice a week for 2-4 hours of rehearsal. Smaller ensembles meet once a week for 1 hour of rehearsal. Students register for the ensembles just as they do for classes. Extra rehearsals are held to a minimum (usually, one dress rehearsal per performance).
