The program includes “How Brightly Beams the Morning Star” by Philip Nicolai, “Chorale Improvisation” by Joby Bell, “Nuit d’Étoiles” by Claude Debussy, selections from “The Garden of Adonis” by Alan Hovhaness and “The Astronomers” by Richard Hundley.

Bio:

Porterfield is the vocal area coordinator in the Hayes School of Music. She has sung with the Toledo Opera in Ohio, the Michigan Opera Theatre and the Ohio Light Opera.

Equally as versatile within the concert repertoire, she sings regularly with chamber music groups and orchestras throughout North Carolina as well as the Midwest. Her recent interest in the Anglo-American ballad and its influence on the Appalachian region resulted in a travel grant to sing a series of recitals in Great Britain. She was invited to sing and lecture at the Elphinstone Institute of the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland.

She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
