Joby Bell Faculty Organ Recital
A faculty recital honoring the late H. Max Smith will be held at Appalachian State University. Smith was an organist and retired faculty member from the Hayes School of Music.
Dr. Joby Bell, associate professor of organ and director of the sacred music program at Appalachian, will perform Marcel Dupré's "Prelude and Fugue in B, Op. 7, No. 1," Alexandre Guilmant's "Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 42", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in E-flat, BWV 552," Felix Mendelssohn's "Sonata No. 5 in D, Op. 65, No. 5," César Franck's "Prière" and Leo Sowerby's "Pageant."
Smith died in July. He retired from Appalachian in 1999 after 25 years in the Hayes School of Music. He helped establish the University Honors Program and was its first director.
