Dr. Bargerstock has an extensive and prestigious performance career including radio, television and recordings. She has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as well as concertized throughout Europe and Asia. She was violinist for fifteen seasons with Alexander Schneider and the Brandenburg Ensemble, one of the most prestigious and well-known international ensembles. Additionally she has appeared in many chamber festivals worldwide and was founder and violinist of the Van Arnum (Lehigh University) and the Deree Piano Trios (American College of Greece.)

Biography

Violinist, NANCY BARGERSTOCK, received her bachelor and master degrees in violin performance from the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, a soloist diploma in viola from the Orfeo Conservatory in Athens, Greece, and a doctorate in violin performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has appeared as recitalist, soloist with orchestra, and chamber musician in major concert venues and festivals in the US, Europe, and the Far East.   

For thirteen years she lived and performed in Europe holding the assistant concertmaster position of the Athens State Orchestra, Greece, as well as teaching full time at Deree College of the American College of Greece. She is violinist in the Deree Piano Trio that produced their second CD recording with works of Mendelssohn, Mozart and Piazzolla in 2009. Prior to living in Europe, she was a contract player in the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and for fifteen years, toured the US, Bermuda, and Japan with the Brandenburg Ensemble under the eminent leadership of Alexander Schneider. She has recorded for Fabel Sound, Vanguard, Calavista and Lyra Records and for the Cypriot and Greek Radio and Television Networks.    Bargerstock’s teaching experience includes positions at Muhlenberg and Moravian Colleges (PA), at Deree College, and for the Greek Ministry of Culture at the Skalkottas, Attico, and Nakas Conservatories of Music in Athens, Greece. She returned to the US in 1999 to join the faculty of the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where she is Professor of Violin. In addition to applied violin instruction, she teaches string chamber music, string pedagogy and literature, orchestral repertoire classes, and performs as a soloist and chamber musician.  Her students regularly achieve success in competitions and auditions and many hold positions in orchestras and teach in music schools all over the world. Formerly state president of the NC American String Teachers Association (2006-08), she is the national chair of the Committee on Studio Instruction of the American String Teachers Association (2012-14.)
