Dr. Nancy Bargerstock, a distinguished violinist and educator, is a full professor of violin in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. With over 40 years of teaching experience, Dr. Bargerstock has made significant contributions to string education. Prior to coming to Appalachian State, she performed in Athens State Orchestra in Greece, the New Jersey Symphony, the Brandenburg Ensemble, Deree Piano Trio, and Nakas String Quartet, and taught at Moravian College (PA) and American College of Greece, Athens. 

Renowned for her dedication to teaching, Dr. Bargerstock received the UNC Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015-16. Her students have excelled in competitions, auditions, and professional careers, performing as soloists with symphony orchestras and securing positions in major music schools and orchestras.

Dr. Bargerstock is actively involved in the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), holding leadership roles at both state and national levels. She has contributed articles to national string periodicals and is passionate about sharing her knowledge in violin performance. Dr. Bargerstock views the study of the violin as a path to developing personal tenacity, self-discipline, and critical self-evaluation, helping students find their expressive voice.

Dr. Bargerstock holds a doctorate in violin performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned master's and bachelor's degrees in violin performance from the Juilliard School of Music, and a soloist diploma in viola from the Orfeo Conservatory in Athens, Greece.
