It is February, but yesterday's temperatures felt like May. The thermometer dropped again today, and the wind has been fierce. So clearly, this is a typically unpredictable Boone winter. Meanwhile, we're enjoying many great performances by faculty, students, and guests. These next weeks also bring candidates to campus as we look toward hiring our first endowed "distinguished professor of Music Education" and new faculty colleagues to lead our cello and double bass studios.
FACULTY AND STAFF BUSINESS
The Hayes School of Music will welcome its first double bass finalist candidate, Dr. Adam Booker, on Wednesday and Thursday of this week (February 15-16). The remaining two visits will take place during the month of March. Dr. Booker is currently on faculty at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. HSoM faculty are invited to attend the jazz combo coaching, the jazz and classical recital, and all are especially encouraged to meet Dr. Booker during the open hour on Thursday.
ASU Faculty Senate has notified me that Reeves Shulstad's term as our Faculty Senator expires at the end of this academic year. We will, therefore, elect a colleague for the next three-year term at our March 3 HSoM faculty meeting. Please consider nominations or self-nominations for this important faculty governance position. According to Senate by-laws Reeves is eligible for reappointment to another term.
The Community Music Club announces auditions for The Gertrude Courtney Blackwell Scholarship, a $500 scholarship for a pianist or vocalist.
