All of us here at the HSoM send our best wishes to alumni, colleagues, and other friends in eastern North Carolina and the entire coastal region for quick recovery from the effects of Hurricane Matthew. We hope that sunny fall days bring good opportunity to gather together, dry out, clean up, and rebuild. We'll feel grateful to be enjoying our most colorful time of year, as the autumn nears its peak here in the High Country. This week brings us the University's fall break, so here's a shout out to all for safe travels if you're headed away for the long weekend.
FACULTY AND STAFF BUSINESS
Chancellor Everts has announced the campus requirement that all faculty and staff participate in an online training module regarding interpersonal violence. Please complete the module prior to the December 16 deadline by following these instructions:
- Go to: http://www.everfi.com/login and click Register
- Under “Student/Learner,” enter the Registration Code: 7b2e5c30 to create your EverFi Account
- Complete Part 1 of Haven for Faculty and Staff by December 16, 2016. This part takes about 45 minutes to complete, but it can be completed in multiple sittings.
- After 30-45 days you will receive an invitation to complete Part 2 of Haven for Faculty and Staff, which must be completed by February 17, 2017. This part takes about 10 minutes to complete.
HSoM faculty music therapist Melody Schwantes Reid, who serves as an HSoM representative on the University Sustainability Council, offers the following information and requests:
- Green Workplace Certification: The Office of Sustainability is looking for more programs to become green workplace certified. Here is a link to the Sustain Yosef Green Workplace webpage which has a pdf that has a list of questions that would need to be addressed prior to starting the process. "It would be really cool to see the HSOM become a green workplace and I think it might be fairly possible with some support from the Office of Sustainability."
- Carbon Neutral Commuter: One of the ways the HSOM faculty and staff could contribute to being a green office would be by having 50% of faculty and staff be carbon neutral commuters. It costs $8 a year. Faculty and staff are still able to sign up at the parking office.
- Food Pantry: The Sustainability Office also has also started a food pantry for any students, faculty, or staff who might be food insecure. They are looking for non-perishable donations and also encourage faculty to let students know who may need some support. It is located in the basement of East Hall.
