This past weekend included many activities related to the Hayes School of Music. Our Advisory Board met on Friday (see KUDOS). Many alumni, donors, and other friends gathered to enjoy Saturday's ASU-Georgia State football game that featured performances by the Marching Mountaineers, 295 strong this year. Sunday included our annual scholarship luncheon, bringing together donors and student recipients to celebrate the beginning of another year. Sunday afternoon continued with a performance by the Appalachian Wind Ensemble in tribute to the late Dr. William Gora, who served as the HSoM's director of bands from 1976-2006. The concert featured works and testimonials by friends and former students selected by Dr. Gora, and it attracted an in-house audience of alumni and colleagues from all over the US, as well as a large online audience.

KUDOS AND OTHER NEWS AND EVENTS
At its recent quarterly meeting, the HSoM Advisory Board elected HSoM alumnus Dean Shatley to serve as its next chair, starting in February. We congratulate and thank Ms. Kay Borkowski for her service as chair in these past years, and we look forward to her ongoing advocacy and support for the HSoM as she continues as a member of the Board. Additionally, the Board elected Mr. Travis Gordon (HSoM Music Industry Studies alumnus) to be its newest member.
Thanks go out to the many faculty colleagues and students who participated in ASU's Fall Open House on Saturday, September 24. The Marching Mountaineers performed as prospective students and their families gathered, and many of us were on hand to answer their questions about all things HSoM.
Special thanks go out to Jay Jackson for his work to coordinate the celebration of life for Bill Gora. It was an event that touched colleagues, alumni, and other friends, including many members of the Gora family.
With best wishes for the eighth week of the 2016-17 academic year,
Bill
