Today, we're back in normal operations after the excitement of Friday's ceremonies and celebrations to install Dr. Sheri Everts as Appalachian's seventh Chancellor. (See kudos for details about the HSoM's involvement.) In these last two weeks of classes, there are performances by individual students and ensembles every night of the week and many on the weekend, as well. Additionally, students are working on final projects, including master's thesis defenses, presentations, and preparations for performance juries and final exams.

Kudos and Other News and Events
- Thanks and congratulations go out to all HSoM colleagues and students involved in Friday's Installation Ceremony and accompanying celebrations. Jay Jackson, as chair of the music/logistics subcommittee, deserves special thanks from all of us for his work to ensure that the ceremony had the requisite elegance and style, as well as a significant presence of music. Ensembles—the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra with members of the Repertory Orchestra conducted by Chung Park, the Wind Ensemble conducted by John Ross, and the combined Appalachian Choirs conducted by Steve Hopkins—provided brilliant framing of the formal ceremony, and other small ensembles—faculty jazz combo and Quintessential! at the noon luncheon, and the student string quartet, saxophone quartet, and jazz combo at the afternoon reception—provided ambience that further enhanced the day's festivities. Also crucial to the success of the day was the sound direction of the Holmes Center event by HSoM faculty colleague Scott Wynne and his crew of students from the Music Industry Studies program. Additionally, other conductors from the Hayes School—Linda Larson, Keith McCutchen, Priscilla Porterfield, and Will Selle—assisted their ensembles' members in their participation. The day was a great success, and many, many colleagues from around campus and elsewhere noted the significance of music to the event and the brilliance of our performers. Bravos to all!
- Appalachian's student chapter of the National Association for Music Education has been recognized with a Chapter Growth Award for the 2014 - 2015 academic year. This is the second consecutive that our NAfME chapter has received this honor.
