Under summer-like skies, the HSoM and all Appalachian resumed activities this morning, following the four-day Easter weekend.
Faculty and Staff Business
- All full-time faculty should sign up through Lauren for an annual conference with me. Please schedule a time between now and the end of May, if at all possible. Please see Faculty Announcements for January 26 for details about the annual evaluation procedure.
- At the April 24 HSoM full faculty meeting, colleagues from Information Technology will present information regarding the upcoming "migration" of our communication systems to Google. - The HSoM Music Therapy Student Association Benefit Concert "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" occurs Wednesday, April 8, at 8 pm, in Rosen.
- HSoM Curriculum and Assessment Committee meets Thursday, April 9, at 1 pm.
- The Graduate Honors Reception occurs Thursday, April 9, at 5 pm, in the Plemmons Student Union Solarium. Graduate students Chelsea Stith (Music Therapy) and RJ Wuagneux will be inducted into the Cratis Williams Society.
- Jazz Ensembles I and II perform Thursday, April 9, at 8 pm, in the Schaefer Center.
- The HSoM Guitarfest Gala Concert occurs Thursday, April 9, at 8 pm, in Rosen. $

HSoM On the Road and Around Campus (upcoming)
- The Steely Pan Steel Band will perform for community events twice during April:
- On Saturday, April 11, from 4-5 pm, the SPB will play during the NC Odyssey of the Mind state competition at the Holmes Center, and they'll perform for ASU's Diversity Day on Tuesday, April 14 at 4:00 - 5:00 in the Summit Trail Solarium in the Plemmons Student Union.

- At the March 27 meeting of the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees, the following HSoM colleagues were honored:
- HSoM Associate Professor of Viola Eric Koontz was awarded permanent tenure.
- Retired HSoM faculty trombonist Harold McKinney was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus.
- Retired HSoM faculty composer Scott Meister was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus.
- The UNC Board of Governors has honored HSoM trumpet professor James Stokes with the ASU School/College Excellence in Teaching Award.
- HSoM faculty music theorist Jennifer Snodgrass's new textbook Contemporary Musicianship has just been released by Oxford University Press: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/contemporary-musicianship-9780199990870?cc=us&lang=en&
- HSoM faculty bassoonist Jon Beebe and pianist Rodney Reynerson's performance of HSoM faculty composer Bill Harbinson's "Sonata for Bassoon and Piano" was featured on NPR station WUOT-FM (Knoxville, TN) on April 8, 2015. The recording is one of five performances that comprise Bill Harbinson's new CD, Five for Two to Five: Chamber Music of William G. Harbinson.
