"Summer" begins following the past weekend's celebrations for graduating students.
Faculty and Staff Business
- Our colleague Steve Hopkins has announced his decision to step down as Director of Cannon Music Camp after this summer. The School Personnel Committee has discussed a hiring process for the next director, whom we would like to name, if at all possible, before Camp begins this year. Between now and May 26, I would ask colleagues to consider nominations or self-nominations for the position. SPC recommends that we first consider internal HSoM faculty candidates, but any nominations would be welcome at this time. Please see the attached job description.
- Please mark your calendars for the HSoM faculty retreat and potluck on Thursday, August 13, 9:30 am-2 pm, in room 225 and the Hayes Lobby of Rosen Concert Hall.
Looking Ahead
- Summer Session I begins May 26 and ends June 25.
- Cannon Music Camp begins June 27 and ends July 18.
- Summer Session II begins June 30 and ends August 3.
- Fall classes begin on Monday, August 17.
HSoM On the Road and Around Campus (upcoming)
- Jazz Ensemble I has just begun a 10-day tour of Italy
Kudos and Other News and Events
- Nearly seventy undergraduate and over a dozen graduate music majors participated in Commencement exercises over the past weekend. Our graduate students in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Therapy were recognized in the Graduate School ceremony on Friday. On Saturday, they received their master's hoods and acknowledgments from faculty mentors during the HSoM Hooding Ceremony. Later on Saturday, undergraduate degree recipients, along with faculty, administration, and many guests, heard students Allison Deters, David Marvel, Matt Dickson, Doug Poteat, Josh Louie, and Blake Ryall perform from the Rosen stage, along with organists Rodney Ward and Dr. Joby Bell. Well-known bassist and author Barry Green provided the Commencement address.
With best wishes for the summer,
Bill

**If you'd like to have something included in future iterations of these announcements, please send me an email with "announcements" in the subject line. Please feel free to send me information about artists (HSoM colleagues and others) who will collaborate in faculty recitals. My listings here sometimes miss those details. I'll be happy to add family/personal announcements, too. Please submit announcements as pdf's or in plain text, unformatted (no special spacing, bullets, etc.). Please include hyperlinks as appropriate.
**Please send information about upcoming off-campus performances and presentations by faculty and students. I'll include them in this "HSoM On the Road..." section.
