April in Boone includes warmer days, snow squalls, thunderstorms, and the frenzied last weeks of the semester.  This week we welcome The Nile Project, and we'll enjoy ASU Opera's production of Mozart's The Magic Flute (see EVENTS).

The NILE PROJECT will be in residence at Appalachian from Sunday, April 2, through Tuesday, April 4. A final concert will occur Tuesday evening (4/4) at 8 pm in the Schaefer Center. $$  

Dean's Student Advisory Council meets Wednesday, April 5, at 5 pm.

Brass Chamber Ensembles perform Wednesday, April 5, at 6 pm, in the Recital Hall. 

Appalachian Opera Theatre presents Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Thursday-Saturday, April 6-8, at 8 pm, and Sunday, April 9, at 2 pm, in Rosen. $$

Brass Studio Ensembles perform Monday, April 10, at 8 pm, in Rosen.

Woodwind Chamber Ensembles perform Tuesday, April 11, at 8 pm, in Rosen.

 

LOOKING AHEAD 

Jazz Ensembles I and II perform Wednesday, April 12, at 8 pm, in the Schaefer Center

Percussion Ensemble performs Thursday, April 13, at 8 pm, in Rosen.

April 15-18 is a University holiday.

Eight HSoM students have been invited to present academic papers at the National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) conference, scheduled for April 6-8 in Memphis, TN. HSoM music theorist Jennifer Snodgrass and musicologist Reeves Shulstad serve as mentors for the student scholars:

KUDOS AND OTHER NEWS AND EVENTS

The HSoM's graduate music therapy program has been recognized by masters-in-special-education.com as the 5th best MMT program in the United States.

HSoM music education junior Abbigail Fleckenstein presented her research at the most recent regional meeting of the College Music Society held in Towson, MD.  Her project was entitled "Understanding Gender in Music Theory Philosophy."

Bradley Green (MM—Composition, '14) just passed his dissertation defense at the University of Maryland.  Bradley will be granted his D.M.A. in composition next month.

HSoM faculty music theorist Greg McCandless has been elected as Member-at-Large of Music Theory Southeast.  He was also recently elected to the editorial board of the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy Online.

HSoM faculty tenor and director of opera Gennard Lombardozzi recently returned from White Plains, New York where he performed the title role of David in the world premiere of Dan Montez's oratorio, David.  Earlier collaborations with Montez have included four other oratorios, all of which were written specifically for his voice.
