Announcements, September 19, 2016

Last Tuesday's Evening of Encores demonstrated the collaborative artistry of HSoM faculty, as we enjoyed hearing twenty professionals provide brilliant music to the large crowd in Rosen, not to mention our live stream audience. As always, it was a spectacular way to highlight the beginning of the academic year.  We continue this week with faculty recitals that include clarinetist Doug Miller, pianist Bair Shagdaron, mezzo-soprano Priscilla Porterfield, pianist Rodney Reynerson, and alumnus pianist Joseph Trivette, in addition to the Boone debut of our new colleague Mélisse Brunet, who will conduct the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra in Mahler, Higdon, and Grieg. (See Events for details.)

HSoM composer Ben Hjertmann will be at Houston, Texas's Menil Collection art gallery this coming weekend, workshopping a new work with his ensemble Grant Wallace Band and the Houston Grand Opera. The work—focused on outsider art, inspired by a Houston artist named Henry Ray Clarke—is scheduled for premiere next year, following last year's receipt of a multi-year commission.
