Music Notes, January 11, 2016

Kudos and Other News and Events

  • Congratulations and thanks go out to members of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) who participated in recent lobbying efforts regarding the new federal ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). The act, among other things, specifies music and the arts as key academic subjects in a well-rounded education. Members who attended last summer's meetings regarding the ESSA include HSoM alumnus and current president of the NCMEA James Daugherty and current HSoM music education student JaQuan Riley.
  • HSoM faculty music therapist Christine Leist has been appointed co-chair of the Academic Program Approval Committee of the American Music Therapy Association.
  • As announced last semester, the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy is now housed at Appalachian. Thanks and congratulations go out to HSoM music theory coordinator Jennifer Snodgrass for her work in securing the HSoM as the new home for JMTP, which has resided at the University of Oklahoma since the 1980s.

With best wishes for the first week of the spring 2016 semester,

Bill
