Music Notes, March 21, 2016

With a characteristically chilly day, Spring has officially begun. The University is closed next Monday and Tuesday, and then we'll resume activities for the last five weeks of the semester.

Guest artist ensemble the Army Trombone Quartet performs in recital on Tuesday, March 22, at 8 pm, in the Recital Hall.

Monday and Tuesday, March 28-29, are University holidays.

 

Looking Ahead

ASU Opera's production of Smetana's The Bartered Bride occurs on Thursday, March 31, through Sunday, April 3. All performances will be in Rosen Concert Hall, with Thursday-Saturday performance at 8 pm. Sunday's is a matinee performance at 2 pm. $$

Surround Sound Electronic Music occurs on Monday, April 4, at 8 pm, in the Recital Hall.

The spring Faculty Gala Concert occurs on Tuesday, April 5, at 8 pm, in Rosen.

 

HSoM on the Road and Around Campus (upcoming)

HSoM musicologist Reeves Shulstad will present a paper entitled "The Angelus of Vietnam: Tui St. George Tucker's Microtonal Response to Vietnam" to the Pop Culture in Theory Mini-Conference, to be held Wednesday, March 23, from 11:30 to 1:00 and 2:00 to 3:30 PM in the Parkway Ballroom (Room 420) in ASU's Plemmons Student Union. Shulstad's paper is scheduled for 2:30 PM.

 

Kudos and Other News and Events

Nancy Bargerstock, HSoM professor of Violin, has received the UNC Board of Governors Appalachian State University School/College Excellence in Teaching Award, one of six campus-wide recipients.

Lisa Runner, HSoM associate professor of Music Education, has received the system-wide UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, representing Appalachian among the seventeen UNC system recipients. http://www.news.appstate.edu/2016/03/18/lisa-runner/

Members of the HSoM Collegium Musicum performed a program of Baroque music and dance entitled A Baroque Adventure at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum on Sunday, March 20. The performance concluded the BRAHM's "Mini Matinee Music and Theatre" family series.
