
Dr. Jordan M. Shomper is assistant professor and Director of Choral Activities in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. He currently conducts University Singers and teaches courses in conducting, choral methods, and choral literature.
Previously, Dr. Shomper was on-faculty at Albright College in Reading, PA and Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. He has held artistic and administrative positions for both the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Tucson. He has also taught general music, led choirs, and music-directed musicals in Pennsylvania public schools. In 2020, he received the Outstanding Young Conductor Award from the Pennsylvania American Choral Directors Association.
An active guest conductor, Dr. Shomper’s recent engagements include the Vail School District Choral Festival, Tucson Tenor-Bass Festival, PMEA Berks Junior County Chorus, and the Reading Choral Society Summer Sing. His creative activities focus on highlighting historically underrepresented composers and implementing practical choral techniques. He has presented at state and regional levels for both the National Association for Music Education and the American Choral Directors Association.
Dr. Shomper holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from West Chester University, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Millersville University.
