The Spring 2015 semester has begun. We've moved from the quietest days of the year—last week—to the full-throttled energy of week one. Here's to another fantastic semester in the HSoM!
Faculty and Staff Business
- Please consider contributing cash toward a New Year's gift to thank our housekeeping staff here in the building. Contributions may be dropped off with Lynn Beebe, Lauren Hayworth, or Janet Seatz in the Dages Administrative Suite.
- Following up from last week's HSoM faculty retreat, Victor Mansure, in his role as our Hubbard Fellow responsible for faculty development, will develop an AsULearn site that will provide colleagues opportunities to share information related to the "pillars" of our conversation—Creativity, Diversity, and Integration. Stay tuned for details about the site and its features.
- In his first weeks on staff, new HSoM piano technician Jim Young will be developing paper and online versions of a piano maintenance request process. Please watch these announcements for further information.
- Now that the Spring 2015 Calendar is fully scheduled, please review it for upcoming events, and let Brent Bingham know if you discover any errors on the site. http://music.appstate.edu/faculty/calendar/2015-01
- The University of North Carolina at Charlotte offers an exciting research experience to qualified undergraduates for summer, 2015. The Summer Program to Increase Diversity in Undergraduate Research (SPIDUR) is for non-UNC Charlotte students from under-represented backgrounds. This program will provide 10 undergraduate students funding to participate in a 9-week research program. Scholars receive one-on-one, faculty-guided research training, and participate in weekly professional development sessions to better prepare them for graduate school and a future research career. http://advance.uncc.edu/node/286
- Sydney Dehus, assistant to the Cannon Music Camp director, asks faculty who have performance webpages (such as special programs, ensembles, etc.) to review their content and send updates to her. She will also assist, along with our webmaster Michelle Melton, in site redesign. Faculty colleagues are also asked to update any personal webpages they have linked to HSoM and CMC sites.

**If you'd like to have something included in future iterations of these announcements, please send me an email with "announcements" in the subject line. Please feel free to send me information about artists (HSoM colleagues and others) who will collaborate in faculty recitals. My listings here sometimes miss those details. I'll be happy to add family/personal announcements, too. Please submit announcements as pdf's or in plain text, unformatted (no special spacing, bullets, etc.). Please include hyperlinks as appropriate.
**Please send information about upcoming off-campus performances and presentations by faculty and students. I'll include them in this "HSoM On the Road..." section.
