Tuition Assistance Terms and Conditions
The information below is relevant to all Community Music School programs offering tuition assistance. It is located in the CMS Handbook.
To apply for tuition assistance, please visit your program's page and follow the process shown, as the application process varies by program.
Our Tuition Assistance Mission
- Tuition assistance is intended to support participants who have financial need that would otherwise prevent them from attending their desired program.
- We appreciate everyone's honesty so that we can allocate our limited tuition assistance funds to musicians who do not have other options. Registrations paid at regular price are essential to our continued ability to hold classes, ensembles, and lessons for the community.
- In addition to financial need, a candidate for tuition assistance should demonstrate dedication to their chosen program through consistent attendance, appropriate practice, and engagement in music-making with the group.
- Timely communication with CMS and completion of all registration forms/processes may also affect tuition assistance decisions.
Terms and Conditions
If the participant or parent/family do not agree to or fulfill the terms and conditions for tuition assistance, CMS may cancel/withdraw a tuition assistance offer, discontinue current tuition assistance and require remaining sessions to be paid at the regular rate, and/or decline to award tuition assistance to the same applicant/family in a future semester.
- If awarded tuition assistance, the participant or parent/guardian will need to make their next payment(s) by the date(s) specified on the page for that program. Tuition assistance may be forfeited/withdrawn if the recipient does not complete the next steps to move forward with registration and payment.
- If a payment plan is approved, the participant or family will need to make payments by the scheduled dates.
- The participant and family will need to follow the policies in the Musician Handbook.
- The participant will need to attend classes/rehearsals/lessons regularly.
- If the participant misses an excessive number of sessions (at the discretion of CMS), CMS reserves the right to withdraw tuition assistance and require remaining sessions in the semester to be paid for at the regular rate if the participant wishes to continue.
- Please note the section on "Withdrawals and Refunds" in the "Policies for All Programs" section of our Handbook.
- If requested by CMS staff, we ask that the participant or family provide CMS with a testimonial about their experience that we may publish. (CMS will not require any student to be publicly identified as a tuition assistance recipient.)
- No refunds will be given for tuition assistance. Tuition assistance not used is forfeited and cannot be rolled over to a future semester.
- In a registration package receiving tuition assistance, the sessions are considered to be the responsibility of the student/family at regular price until they have reached the full value of their reduced package cost.
- The price of missed/unused sessions is not prorated for the purposes of a refund. For example, if a participant enrolled in a program that is 10 sessions long and tuition assistance was offered whose value covered 5 sessions, and the participant did not continue attending after 5 sessions, no refund will be offered because the student received the sessions they paid for and no tuition assistance was used.
- If circumstances make it difficult to attend the program, please let us know as soon as possible so we can discuss your best options!
