Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) Conference held at App State March 20-21; events free to public
On Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, the Hayes School of Music and Appalachian State University will host the 2026 Region IV Conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. Students, faculty/staff, and the public are welcome to attend events free of charge!
Hayes School of Music ensembles and faculty will perform new music throughout the conference. Out of 126 composers from across the region who submitted work through SCI's competitive process, 31 will have their music performed at the conference. Events will also include a paper session, a Dolby Atmos room listening session, and a special session about composer Tui St. George Tucker by Dr. Nick Cline.
The Society of Composers, Inc. is a professional society dedicated to the promotion, performance, understanding and dissemination of new and contemporary music. Members include composers both in and outside academia interested in addressing these concerns on a national and regional level. SCI’s success in promoting contemporary American music can be seen in the more-than 5,000 performances of new works SCI has sponsored at its annual national, regional, and student conferences. SCI members gain access to career opportunities like competitions, festivals, and conferences via SCION, SCI’s online database of composition opportunities.
