Announcements, November 21, 2016

This week brings just two class days before students and faculty take a break for Thanksgiving, and the University will be closed Thursday-Sunday, November 24-27. Then we enjoy the semester's last class days, and we look forward to our annual Holiday Scholarship Concert on Saturday, December 3.

FACULTY AND STAFF BUSINESS

**Student evaluations will be conducted online this semester, using a piloted version of the eXplorance Blue software. Faculty and students should receive information and instructions prior to the submission window, scheduled for November 28-December 8. Other details and suggestions forwarded to us from ITS include the following:

  • Students will receive email notifications about the online evaluations
  • Teachers can log into Blue to see their response rates while the survey is open.
  • Faculty who encourage student participation or even offer time in class for students to complete the survey on their smartphones tend to have higher response rates.
  • Faculty will have access to reports after final grades are turned in; they will login to the Blue site to see that information.

In order to ensure maximal response rates, I encourage faculty, especially non-tenured colleagues to utilize class, rehearsal, or master class/studio class time for students to submit their information.

**Please send information regarding any programs or activities that are planned for February to celebrate Black History Month to Nick Wright so that the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership can add them to the University-Wide Calendar. The deadline is December 16, 2016 . Please include date, time, location and a brief summary of the event.

**If you'd like to have something included in future iterations of these announcements, please send me an email with "announcements" in the subject line. Please feel free to send me information about artists (HSoM colleagues and others) who will collaborate in faculty recitals. My listings here sometimes miss those details. I'll be happy to add family/personal announcements, too. Please submit announcements as pdf's or in plain text, unformatted (no special spacing, bullets, etc.). Please include hyperlinks as appropriate.

**Please send information about upcoming off-campus performances and presentations by faculty and students. I'll include them in this "HSoM On the Road..." section.
