Announcements, November 28, 2016

We're in our last three class days of the semester. Final performances include the Appalachian Chorale on Tuesday, Gospel Choir on Wednesday, and our annual Holiday Scholarship Concert on Saturday. Also on Saturday, we'll begin the year's process of auditioning prospective students to join us in the fall class of 2017.  (See EVENTS for details.) 

 

FACULTY AND STAFF BUSINESS

**Please review proposals for revisions to Music Industry Courses forwarded by the HSoM Curriculum and Assessment Committee (attached).

**The Tenure & Promotion Committee will meet immediately following this Thursday's Music Faculty Meeting. Please see Scott Kallestad's emails regarding topics for the meeting.

**Please send information regarding any programs or activities that are planned for February to celebrate Black History Month to Nick Wright so that the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership can add them to the University-Wide Calendar. The deadline is December 16, 2016 . Please include date, time, location and a brief summary of the event.

Dean's Advisory Council meets Tuesday, November 29, at 11 am.

Appalachian Chorale performs Tuesday, November 29, at 8 pm, in Rosen.

Deans' Student Advisory Council meets Wednesday, November 30, at 5 pm.

Gospel Choir performs Wednesday, November 30, at 8 pm, in Rosen.              

Thursday, December 1, is Reading Day.

The HSoM full faculty meets on Thursday, December 1, at 11 am. 

Saturday, December 3, is the HSoM's first audition day for identifying members of the entering Fall 2017 class.

The HSoM Holiday Scholarship Concert occurs Saturday, December 3, at 7:30 pm, in the Schaefer Center.

The annual Messiah Sing-Along occurs Sunday, December 4, at 6 pm.

 

LOOKING AHEAD  

Final exams end on Thursday, December 8.

The annual HSoM December Graduates Reception and Master's Hooding Ceremony will occur on Friday, December 9, at 3 pm.

The December Commencement ceremony for HSoM undergraduates and graduate students occurs Saturday, December 10, at 10 am, in the Holmes Convocation Center.

The University is closed December 26-30 and January 2.

The University is closed January 16 for the MLK holiday.

The first day of classes for the spring 2017 semester is Tuesday, January 17.

 

HSoM ON THE ROAD and AROUND CAMPUS (upcoming)

HSoM ethnomusicologist Laurie Semmes will appear as a panelist in a global studies discussion "Global Trumpism: What is it, and how do we talk about it?" Wednesday, November 30, at 7 pm, in Belk Library 114.  Other panelists will include Laura Ammon (Philosophy and Religion), Michael Behrent (History), Jeffrey Bortz (History), Thomas Ellis (Philosophy and Religion), Aleksander Lust (Political Science), Thomas Pegelow Kaplan (History/ Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies), and moderator Alexandra Hellenbrand (Global Studies).

On Thursday, Dec. 1st, the HSoM - American String Teachers Student Chapter will perform at the Women's Fund of the Blue Ridge Annual Holiday Luncheon in Blowing Rock. Three string trios comprised of HSoM string majors will perform music from standard and contemporary styles at the Chetola Resort & Spa. These students combine their talents to aid the club's fundraising efforts that target club attendance to the ASTA National Conference, March 2-4, 2017 in Pittsburgh. The Women's Fund hired the club to perform last Christmas, and due to last year's great success, they were re-invited to perform this year.
