Dr. Casey Collins is an assistant professor of music education in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. She works with music education students and coordinates their student teaching assignments. In addition to her work with Appalachian State University, Dr. Collins writes curriculum for Pitch Publications.

Previously, Dr. Collins was a Clinical Professor of Music Education at Purdue University Fort Wayne where she taught undergraduate music education courses and served as the student teaching coordinator. She also spent nearly a decade teaching Pk-5 elementary general music in North Carolina where she was awarded Teacher of the Year and honored as an Excellence in Education district finalist. In 2018, Dr. Collins was awarded the Global Teacher of the Year from Participate Learning for her dedication to global education. 

Dr. Collins’ research interests include teaching music in high-poverty schools, trauma-informed pedagogy, positive psychology, and vocal health and hygiene for music teachers. She has presented on these topics internationally, nationally, and regionally at various research and practitioner conferences. 

Dr. Collins holds a Ph.D in Music Education from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music in Music Education from East Carolina University, and Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degrees from Elon University. When she is not teaching, Dr. Collins can be found reading, running, or playing with her two cats, Opa and Anabelle.
