Faculty Announcements, January 26, 2015

As our friends in the northeast brace for an "epic, historic" winter storm, we're seeing just a "dusting to an inch" of snow. And we're in full swing for the semester, with concerts scheduled, an audition day on Saturday, and many other events in the planning stages.

Faculty and Staff Business

  • During the next months of the spring semester, the HSoM will follow Appalachian's university-wide procedure for annual full-time faculty evaluation and review. A form has been revised for the process. (Please see attached form in Word format.) I would like for us to use the following plan for completing the annual reviews:
    • Full-time faculty colleague makes 30-minute appointment with me, through Lauren (appointments to be scheduled starting February 16). I would ask untenured faculty colleagues to wait until Professional Development Committee activities have concluded later in the semester.
    • Colleague submits annual review form to Lauren at least three days prior to scheduled meeting with me, with self-evaluation sections completed as applicable (teaching, research/creative activities, service, progress toward promotion and/or tenure, progress toward post tenure review, goal setting). Please feel free to use bulleted lists and brief prose as you complete the sections. Please add your last name to the file name when you submit it.
    • The HSoM office will add teaching activities (courses, sections, ensembles, studio lessons, chamber music coaching, etc.) and student evaluation data.
    • Following our meeting, I will return the completed form to you for your signature and additional comments (optional).
  • Please note that this procedure is for full-time faculty only and focuses on calendar year 2014. I would welcome part-time faculty to schedule 30-minute appointments with me during these next months, but again this year, part-time faculty won't use the standardized form.

**If you'd like to have something included in future iterations of these announcements, please send me an email with "announcements" in the subject line. Please feel free to send me information about artists (HSoM colleagues and others) who will collaborate in faculty recitals. My listings here sometimes miss those details. I'll be happy to add family/personal announcements, too. Please submit announcements as pdf's or in plain text, unformatted (no special spacing, bullets, etc.). Please include hyperlinks as appropriate.

**Please send information about upcoming off-campus performances and presentations by faculty and students. I'll include them in this "HSoM On the Road..." section.
