Laurelle Cartwright is a lecturer of music therapy in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. Prof. Cartwright became a board-certified music therapist in 2021 and a Neurologic Music Therapist in 2023. Her clinical experiences span diverse populations, including preschoolers with speech and language impairments, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and older adults in hospice care. 

Before joining the faculty at Appalachian State, Prof. Cartwright served as the sole music educator on two Bahamian islands, directing various music groups for five years. Prof. Cartwright worked as a music therapist and fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Additionally, she worked as a graduate music therapy practicum supervisor and part-time music therapist at Watauga High School. 

Prof. Cartwright, a native of The Bahamas, holds a combined equivalency/master of music therapy and certificate in emotional and behavioral disorder from Appalachian State University, and a Bachelor in Music Education from The College of The Bahamas. Her ultimate goal is to establish music therapy in The Bahamas, leveraging the therapeutic power of music to address individuals' holistic needs.
