Missed Classes

No make-up classes will be given for individual student absences. Students who miss a class session are encouraged to contact the instructor for information on topics and activities covered during that session.

Withdrawals and Refunds

  • If a student plans to stop attending a group class, the parent must email a notice of withdrawal to Lisl Doughton, Program Manager (doughtonlk@appstate.edu).
  • For classes missed before officially withdrawing, no refunds will be given and no charges will be waived.
  • If a student withdraws from a group class and receives a waiver or refund, the following will be subtracted from the amount waived or refunded:
    • a $30 processing fee
    • the value of any previous class sessions based on the regular price

"Pay What You Can" Payment Options

  • Thanks to donor support, the Community Music School proudly offers “Pay What You Can” options for our group programs! 
  • The highest listed price reflects a typical cost per student to put on the program. However, based on financial need, you may choose any of the listed prices for a program to help meet your family’s budget. 
    • Price options for most classes are $250, $185, $125, $75, and $0. 
  • To cover registration through Conference and Event Services, one $25 registration fee will be included.

Calendar

  • CMS group programs will meet for 12 sessions.
  • Hayes School of Music (college-level) ensembles will begin the week of January 10 and will follow the academic calendar. 

Classes and Instruments

  • CMS is not able to lend out instruments for students to use at home. Please visit your local music store for more information about instrument rentals and purchases. The HUB Station may have guitars and ukuleles available to rent for a small fee. 
  • Some classes will have instruments available to use in class only.

Missed or Rescheduled Lessons

  • A lesson missed or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged as a regular lesson. 
  • A teacher will reschedule one lesson without penalty if the student/family provides over 24 hours’ notice. 
  • Even with advance notice, a teacher may not be able to reschedule frequently due to their other time commitments. For this reason, a teacher is not required to reschedule more than one lesson.

  • Private lessons are typically not eligible for refunds except in extraordinary circumstances. 
  • If a student needs to withdraw from private lessons, the student (and parent/guardian if applicable) must email a notice of withdrawal to asucommunitymusic@appstate.edu.

    • Log into your Iris account: https://appstate.irisregistration.com.
    • Click on "Registrations" and find the entry for your CMS program.
    • Click the orange “Make a Payment” button.
      • Iris accepts MasterCard and Visa.

    How to Apply

    Tuition assistance may be available towards CMS lessons. Applying promptly is recommended for best results. Tuition assistance applications may take up to 2 weeks to be processed.
