Community Drumming (HUB Station)

In this community class, participants will learn traditional rhythms from around the world. Each session will include cultural background, learning rhythmic vocabulary, formal application, improvisation, culminating in free communication and self-expression within a community of diverse peoples - in other words, an all-out jam!

Program Information

  • Age: All ages!
    • Children under 10 will need to be accompanied by an adult family member (registered separately).
  • Instructor: Chris Mayhew
  • No experience necessary
  • Price: $250 - $0 (with “Pay What You Can” options) +$25 registration fee
  • Location: HUB Station in Hudson, NC
  • Times: 5:15-6:00pm on Thursdays for 12 weeks (starting August 26)

Materials

  • Participants will bring their own drums. 
    • Hand drums such as djembe, conga, or doumbec/darbuka are strongly recommended.
    • Don’t have a drum? Bring a bucket, tupperware, pots and pans – anything you can find that can produce two or three pitches (low, medium, high), and some sticks or hands to play!
