This week, as March begins, we also welcome guest artist percussion ensemble Percuba from El Instituto Superior de las Artes in Havana, Cuba. The ensemble will perform Saturday, March 4, at 8 pm, in Rosen. These artists will also conduct workshops and master classes throughout their residency March 3-7.

It is February, but yesterday's temperatures felt like May. The thermometer dropped again today, and the wind has been fierce. So clearly, this is a typically unpredictable Boone winter. Meanwhile, we're enjoying many great performances by faculty, students, and guests. These next weeks also bring candidates to campus as we look toward hiring our first endowed "distinguished professor of Music Education" and new faculty colleagues to lead our cello and double bass studios.

FACULTY AND STAFF BUSINESS

In early March, Emil Schlee will join us as our first full-time piano technician. Emil comes to us from Washington, D.C., where among other responsibilities, he has tuned pianos for the French embassy.

This third week of classes began with a weather delay, due to snow and high wind, but regular operations resumed at noon, and we're now enjoying a beautiful sunny afternoon—there's nothing that compares to mountain weather!

After a four-day first week of classes, we settle in for the semester. The next weeks prior to Spring Break bring us three more audition days for identifying the incoming fall 2017 class.
