Music Humanities Community Conversations Series
The Music Humanities Community Conversation Series provides a forum for students, faculty, and staff at Appalachian State University and community members to engage current topics in music humanities through invited talks and workshops given by scholars, artists, and cultural leaders from Appalachian State and the surrounding region.
Each event is on a Thursday from 7:00-8:00pm in Schaffel Recital Hall in the Broyhill Music Center (BMC 129):
- February 1st: Dr. Nancy Love (App State Political Science) - "Land and Song: Indigenous Reflections on Sovereign Community"
- February 22nd: Dr. Sophia Enríquez (Duke University, Ethnomusicology) - "Fandango Futurities: Listening for the Nuevo South and an Emerging Southern Son"
- March 28th: Dr. Jake Kopcienski (App State Hayes School of Music) - "Archives and Community: Remembering Queer Cultural Organizing in Appalachia"
- April 18th: Dr. Julie Shepherd-Powell (App State IDS and Appalachian Studies) - "Embodying Culture: Community Dances in Rural Appalachia (Dance Workshop)"
About the Series
- The events are free and open to the public.
- Attendees may park in the Schaefer Lot, Broyhill Lot, or Peacock Lot for free from 7:00pm to the end of the event. The Broyhill Music Center is at 813 Rivers St, Boone, NC, 28608.
