During the reunion weekend activities in 2005, the steel band founder and long time director, Dr. Meister, was honored with the establishment of the "The Dr. Scott Meister Steely Pan Steel Band Scholarship Fund" for his many years of leadership, research, and dramatic influence on countless students, alumni and friends. Fundraising for this scholarship has already begun, and the band hopes to collect enough donations from alumni and friends of the Steel Band to award the first scholarship within the next two years. This unique scholarship fund will financially assist music students, while achieving the mission of the Hayes School of Music.
