Register on this page for Level I of the Orff Schulwerk Teacher Education Program at App State!
Before registering, please see important course information on these pages:
Course Dates: Monday, June 15 - Friday, June 26, 2026. Classes are generally held 9am-4pm Monday through Friday of each week.
Course Fee
The course fee includes all instruction, course notes, materials, T-shirt, and a closing picnic dinner. See the Housing and Parking page for optional additional costs. Meals are not included.

- Northwest NC Music Educators - Public School Partnership: $540 ($160 discount)
- Watauga County Music Educators - Public School Partnership: $440 ($260 discount)
- Early Bird Pricing: $50 OFF any of the above prices if your deposit is completed by April 1!

Registration and Payment Link
Iris Registration - Orff Schulwerk Level I [The link will be be posted here soon!]
- If asked for a code to access the form, enter [code will be added when registration is open].
- New registrants will be prompted to create an Iris Registration account. Please record your email/username and password in a secure location.
- For technical help with the Iris Registration form and payments, please contact Carey Driskell (driskellc@appstate.edu, (828) 262-2942) in the Office of Conference and Event Services.
Registration and Discount Process
- Submit Registration and Deposit: When registering, all participants will see the regular course fee of $700 displayed in their cart at checkout (along with any housing and parking costs selected). A nonrefundable $150 deposit is required to complete the registration.
- Discounts Applied: After you complete the registration and $150 deposit, our staff will manually adjust your account to reflect the pricing, discounts, and/or tuition assistance for which you are currently eligible. This may take up to two weeks.
- Tuition Assistance Applications (Optional/If Needed): Before or after submitting your registration and deposit, you can apply for tuition assistance from App State’s GAPP fund and/or other organizations listed on our Pricing and Tuition Assistance page.
- Pay on the Adjusted Balance: You are welcome to wait to make further payments until you see the discount(s) applied to your account. You can make the remaining payment installments in amounts and times that work for you. Final payments are due May 18.
Important Dates
- April 1 (Wednesday) - $50 Early Bird Discount ends
- May 1 (Friday) - Tuition assistance form closes for App State’s GAPP Fund
- May 18 (Monday) - Registration closes and all final payments are due. After this date, please contact Erin Ellington (ellingtone@appstate.edu) regarding enrollment.
- Registrations that have not been paid in full by May 18 will be considered cancelled and the registrant removed from the roster.
- June 14 (Sunday), 2:00-4:00pm - Check-in for participants in campus housing
- June 15 (Monday) - Course begins. Classes are generally held 9am-4pm Monday through Friday of each week.
- June 26 (Friday) - Course ends. Campus housing participants will check out by 8:00am before attending the final day of classes.
Cancellations
- Cancellations received by Monday, May 18 will receive a refund of any payments minus the nonrefundable $150 deposit.
- Cancellations of registrations with campus housing will have an additional $50 processing fee deducted from the refund.
- Only funds made as payment on an account will be eligible for a refund. The value of tuition assistance or other discounts will not be issued to the registrant as part of a refund.
- No refunds will be given after May 18.
Certification
All participants will receive a letter stating the number of contact hours completed; some school systems will accept this letter for licensure renewal. Teachers, please check your school system's requirements before enrolling.
Appalachian State University DOES NOT offer the option to enroll in this Orff program for academic credit. However, course credit may be available through Ashland University in partnership with the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Contact education@aosa.org for more information about course credit.
